Superhero League Members ToyBlock Music (TBM), The Quincy Not So Fine Arts Society (NSFAS) and Writing the Rails bring the citizens of Quincy, IL, the “sweetest way to save the world.” On Saturday, May 22nd, 1:00-5:00pm, TBM will hold a superhero-themed fundraiser at Ice Scream (616 Maine Street, Quincy, IL, 62301) to benefit the league’s charity of choice, PAGER. “PAGER has helped rescue countless children and babies from the evil clutches of our nemesis, pediatric reflux disorder,” says TBM’s leader The Graceful Abyss (rumored by some sources to be music business entrepreneur Joanna Quargnali-Linsley). “We are proud to be of service to their noble cause.”
The event will feature super deals on ice cream, live music from Camel Man (TBM artist David Kav) and the return of The Cat Crusader (TBM artist and Quincy, IL native Alex Sanders), as well as a superhero costume contest; a crime-fighting starter kit will be awarded to the child sporting the best outfit. Donation jars will be available throughout the shop for everyday citizens to aid PAGER in its struggle against the dark forces of pediatric reflux disorder. Other activities and surprises, currently veiled in mystery, are also said to be in store.
ToyBlock Music has already made significant strides in its mission to “save the world from kitschy kids’ music, one album at a time.” The league’s first release, “Eats Paste,” came out on April 1st, 2010, and features a wide variety of heroic musicians including two Grammy award winners. A portion of all proceeds from the project will be donated to PAGER. More information, including song samples and downloads, is available on the website, www.toyblockmusic.com.
Writing the Rails, the ongoing project of TBM artist Camel Man, is a railroad music tour. Camel Man’s travels are fully documented on video, blogs, and other social media, as he tours America writing new songs and raising money for various causes. Find out more at www.writingtherails.com.
The Quincy Not-So-Fine-Arts Society is a guerrilla arts society dedicated to illuminating the unheard and unseen music, art, film, theatre, cooking, and writing of Quincy, and bring it to the public. For more information, find them on Facebook or email guerrilla.arts.quincy@gmail.com.
Quincy’s Ice Scream shop has been designated an ideal spot for the fundraiser – both for the unmatched quality of its homemade ice cream and for its relative proximity to Metropolis, IL (a mere 300 miles away), legendary home of your hero and ours, Superman. “Should there be villainy of any kind, we can always rely on Superman’s imminent arrival,” insists The Graceful Abyss. “The good people of Quincy can rest assured.”
